BRUNCH OF CHAMPIONS: TWO ST. LOUIS CHEFS CREATE A ONE-DAY ONLY COLLABORATIVE MENU FOR PROMO MISSOURI FUNDRAISER

The event takes place on Sunday, June 2 and includes an open bar featuring craft beer from 4 Hands Brewing Co and cocktails from 1220 Spirits

ST. LOUIS (May 2, 2024) — PROMO, Missouri’s LGBTQ+ public policy and advocacy organization, hosts its Brunch of Champions fundraiser on Sunday, June 2 from 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. at 4 Hands Brewing Co. (1220 S 8th St, St. Louis, MO 63104). The event features a menu collaboration between two St. Louis favorites: Honey Bee’s Biscuits + Good Eats, the Kirkwood restaurant known for its biscuits, gravy, and variety of biscuits sandwiches, and RootedBuds, a Black-, LGBTQ+, women-owned hospitality brand providing catering, private events and dining experiences, consulting, and everyday products to use at home. Attendees will also enjoy an open bar with craft beer from 4 Hands and cocktails from 1220 Spirits. Tickets are available through PROMO’s website and cost $100 per person or $25 for students and older adults.

“Missouri is in the beginning stages of a revolution to change the hearts, minds, and policies that shape our state,” said Lacie Jett (she/her), Director of Development for PROMO. “Every single person has a role to play and Brunch of Champions is a showcase of the strength we have as a community built from the power and joy of each individual. We’ll continue this celebration of queer and trans joy throughout the month as we attend Pride celebrations across the state from Kansas City to Joplin, from Cape Girardeau to St. Louis, and from Columbia to the Ozarks.”

The menu created by Honey Bee’s Biscuits + Good Eats and RootedBuds centers around a collaboration item, the Mini Vegan Jackfruit Honey Biscuit made with smoked jackfruit that is topped with a crisp apple slaw and BBQ sauce all on a honey-glazed biscuit. Guests will also be able to create their own biscuit sandwiches with a biscuit bar featuring two types of biscuits — honey-glazed and birthday cake — alongside mushroom gravy, classic gravy, egg patties, and chicken chorizo patties. Top your sandwiches with jam butter or a bacon aioli.

Additional food being served includes:

  • A grazing board with an assortment of cured meats, cheeses, fruit, breads, and vegetables that are fresh, grilled, and pickled.
  • New Orleans style shrimp and grits with sauteed shrimp, non-pork sausage, peppers, celery, and onions and a mushroom medley and grits as a vegetarian option.
  • A spring salad using a spring mix tossed with dried cranberries, mandarin oranges, candied nuts, and served with a herb vinaigrette.

Both chefs participate in this event because this fight for equality in Missouri is personal.

“Being a queer woman in the world has always empowered me to be a part of things that are special and supportive of my community, because of the different things we can be faced with,” said Chef Snoop Hollins (she/her) of RootedBuds. “Being a part of Brunch of Champions means that myself and my business will get to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community in solidarity alongside the Champions of Equality throughout our state! It brings me true happiness that people will get to experience the love RootedBuds puts into the food we share and we’re thankful for the opportunity.”

Chef Michael Shadwick (he/him) of Honey Bee’s Biscuits + Good Eats mirrored that sentiment saying, “I am driven to participate in this event because, while it’s just food, Honey Bee’s has shown me the value of bee-ing myself through my passion, food. It’s important for people to have a comfortable environment where they are allowed to express themselves and be accepted.”

Ticket holders will also hear an address from PROMO’s Executive Director, Katy Erker-Lynch, on the current legislative climate in Missouri and learn about the organization’s new deep canvassing initiative to fight back against the hate within the state.
