ST. LOUIS (August 1, 2024) — PROMO, Missouri’s LGBTQ+ public policy and advocacy organization, released the following statement shortly after Representative Justin Sparks (R-Wildwood) held a press conference regarding a transgender Missourian and her use of the women’s locker room while at LifeTime Fitness:

Today, we saw a freshman legislator blatantly use a woman’s body and livelihood as a campaign stunt for his re-election campaign only days away from the Missouri Primary. If Rep. Sparks was actually concerned about protecting women, he’d introduce bills meant to help women facing intimate partner violence, he’d help address the pay gap facing women in Missouri, and he would not be against Missourian’s right to abortion healthcare. His actions today reminded us of one thing — it’s election season and politicians will say anything to gain your vote, even if it means hurting people.

The LGBTQ+ organization continues to monitor the situation while also outreaching to the person impacted and LifeTime Fitness.
