“The ID for Me” — Changing Your Gender Marker

Missourians deserve the right to have an ID that matches who they are, including presenting an accurate gender and correct name. We need to hear from Missouri residents if you’re facing challenges completing the process of updating your gender marker or are being denied the ability to do so.

Tell Us Your Experience

During the timeframe of Monday, August 5 through Wednesday, August 7, 2024, the Missouri Department of Revenue changed the process Missourians could use to update their gender marker on identification documents. The previous form used (Form 5532) has since been removed from the department’s website, the Department of Motor Vehicles’ website, and all DMV offices have thrown out paper copies. Those wishing to go through the process are now required to either have a “signed medical document from a surgeon stating gender reassignment surgery has taken place or a court order.” We need to hear from Missourians who are either struggling to complete the process (financially or procedurally) or who are being denied the ability to go through the process at all. For more information, please read the news release we put out publicly on Monday, August 19.
