We’ve had an incredible year! Check out the top 10 moments of 2018:
- The Missouri Nondiscrimination Act (MONA) passed out of a House Committee for only the 2nd time in Missouri history.
- Representative Tracy McCreery filed the Youth Mental Health Preservation Act, the very first bill to ban conversion therapy in Missouri history.
- Staff and volunteers were your voice in the Capitol building 72 days during legislative session, defeating every single anti-LGBTQ bill.
- St. Joseph, MO passed an inclusive nondiscrimination ordinance,Washington, MO issued a Proclamation honoring Pride Month, and St. Peters, MO issued a Proclamation honoring Transgender Day of Remembrance.
- Mayor Terry Crow was elected as University City’s openly gay mayor.
- PROMO staff trained the ENTIRE staff of Affinia Healthcare (more than 800 employees!) to expand their LGBTQ knowledge and inclusive practices.
- SAGE of PROMO Fund hosted SAGE Table in both Springfield and STL with more than 85 LGBT community members and allies in attendance, ranging in ages from 2 to 95. SAGE Table is an LGBT-centered intergenerational meal that takes place nationwide.
- Throughout the year, PROMO honored champions across the state, including 4Hands Brewing Co, Betty Neeley, Centerpointe Hospital, Cooper County Alliance, Hannah Brashers, and Mayor Terry Crow.
- PROMO hired new staff, including Shira Berkowitz as the PROMO Communications Manager, Tori Jameson as the PROMO Field Organizer in STL, and Samati Niyomchai as our new Manager of Public Policy!
- Hosted a record-breaking Urbanaire, funding PROMO’s critical work throughout the year. (Join us on May 11, 2019!)
